Ayam Penyet

In Johor Bahru, on the way to the glass temple, we stopped by a small road side food stall. I ordered some ayam penyet. It is a dish that originates from Indonesia and during the years it has increased in popularity, due to the many Indonesian foreign workers. It is a very basic dish but still very tasty. It is like an Indonesian variation of nasi ayam, but with deep fried, tenderised and well marinated chicken. There is also a special kind of chili sauce, which is really, really tasty. They also add tempeh and fried tofu. Tempeh is a cake made of slightly fermented soy beans. It tastes a bit like tofu, but with a more solid texture to it. Ayam Penyet in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
