The Temple made of Glass

When visiting Johor Bahru one just must make a visit to the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple. It is one of the oldest hindu tempels in JB.  Built 1922 it has, during the years, evolved from a simple shelter to being one of Johor Bahrus major tourist attractions. Guru Bhagawan Sittar, temple chairman wanted to rebuild the temple after seeing a glass temple in a trip to Thailand. In 2008 they started to retrofit the temple with glass and a year later it was completed, making it the first glass temple in Malaysia. An interesting thing is that there are statues of Buddha, Jesus and other religious figures inside the temple. An excellent display of the religious tolerance that one can see throughout Malaysia.

  1. This temple reminds me to a room in Udaipur City Palace, where they put the glass on the wall up to the ceiling. It’s told that they need only a candle to lit the whole room … Thanks for sharing, so I have a sight seeing reference if I visit Johor Bahru again someday. Nice photos 🙂
